| HOW TO REALIZE FARMERS' RIGHTS AT THE
NATIONAL LEVEL: Step 1: Creating and enhancing awareness on the importance of Farmers' Rights The awareness of Farmers' Rights and their importance for food security and poverty eradication is marginal in most countries. An international stakeholder survey in 2005 revealed that there is low awareness on Farmers' Rights among farmers as well as authorities in charge of management of crop genetic resources in many countries. Thus, it is wise to start the process of implementing Farmers' Rights by creating or enhancing awareness on the importance of these rights, on their contents and background. Creating and enhancing awareness can be done in many different ways. Some of these are presented here. Advantages and disadvantages of the different options are highlighted in order to help selecting the best combination of measures.  Creating awareness in central
